Marching To Our Inner Beat
As we walk through life many of us march to the beat of some drum. When we’re young that’s our parents, school teachers, coaches. As we get older it may be our friends and professors. It could be our place of worship or it could be the media. For most of us it’s a mix of all of those. We generally tend to follow the path laid out for us without much question, or if we do question it, it’s superficial in nature without the deep analysis required to really challenge what we have been told.
Today much of our personal ideology is shaped by short videos on social media and our appetite for deeper analysis and introspection is waning. It’s too easy to march to the beat of a sound bite or a slogan. It’s easy to agree with any side that appeals to our desires and fears.
It’s imperative for us to ask why. Why do we believe what we believe? What are our closely held beliefs rooted in? How did we come to believe what we believe, whether that be in religion, politics, or any other aspect of our lives and society. We need to ask who’s to gain from us believing what we believe, what do we have to gain or lose from accepting those beliefs?
Today as we do our asana practice, we’ll be marching to the beat of an ancient drum. A rhythm, a vibration, that is meant to connect our personal self to something universal. A frequency that aligns our higher selves to each other and to the universal self. Use your practice to connect you to that inner vibration and beat that resonates with your true self. Find that inner beat, that inner ancient universal vibration for your marching orders.
